Detailed Tour Description
The Russian word “Kremlin” originally meant a fortress, and the Moscow Kremlin remains a vast medieval citadel at the centre of the city. Constructed in its present form in the late 15th century, the Kremlin contains some of the oldest buildings in Moscow, all closely connected to Russian history. Before the Russian capital was moved to St. Petersburg by Peter the Great, it served as the residence of the Russian tsars; during the Soviet period, it housed the Supreme Soviet; and today it functions both as the office of the President of Russia and a museum open to the public, making it one of Moscow’s most significant landmarks and an essential inclusion in any travel programme.
